Is Venice Actually Sinking?
The answer to that question is yes, it is. After a major flood on November fourth 1966 scientists researched why it happened. It was because of wind, the polar ice caps melting, and because the city of Venice was sinking. According to the scientists research, Venice had sank about 15 centimeters since 1900. I know that that does not sound like a lot, but in another 100 years, part of it could be gone, and scientists expect it to worsen. So how can we help? Scientists say that three centimeters of the 15 are from natural causes, which we cannot really stop, but the rest is from taking groundwater from aquifers and flooding. The MOSE project was introduced. The MOSE project is 79 moving flood gates that if the water level gets high, they will move out of the water, keeping the water back. They will stay up for four and a half hours.
